Nyctophobia: Fear the Dark

I wore many dev hats while working on Nyctophobia: Fear the Dark, serving as both UI Designer and Lead Graphic Designer. My responsibilities included creating UI icons, programming control screens, and contributing to the setup of audio and visual settings. I designed key legal elements, including the in-game warning screen, EULA, and Privacy Policy. I crafted the full suite of Steam Achievement Trophy art by staging and capturing gameplay footage within Unreal Engine. Beyond interface design, I contributed to level development by placing prop assets throughout the Mansion level and assisting with in-game lighting, including nanite optimization within UE settings. My creative input also extended to 2D prop art like the "For Sale" sign in the Cul-de-sac level and the narrative design for collectible in-game letter clues found in that area. I even modeled the 3D asset of the Good A’Nuff Studios logo—an Easter egg that players can discover to unlock a hidden Steam Achievement trophy in the Mansion level.

The Concept

To honor the legacy of his mentor—owner of a local realty company—the game’s producer integrated a subtle tribute into Nyctophobia: Fear the Dark. A "For Sale" sign, echoing the design used by Micah Lee Realty, was placed in front of an empty, accessible home in the Cul-de-Sac level. This small environmental detail blends personal homage with world-building, adding another layer of realism and mystery to the game’s eerie setting.

Recovered documents indicate that prior to the incident, several deceased residents authored personal journal entries detailing anomalous psychological disturbances. These entries exhibit increasing levels of paranoia, hallucinations, and emotional degradation in the days leading up to their deaths.

The agent deployed to Sector â–ˆ—designated Cul-de-Sac—is tasked with recovering and analyzing these entries. Each document provides critical insights into the cognitive breakdown of affected individuals and may contain indirect references to the entity classified as SCP-████. Foundation operatives are advised to proceed with caution. All journal materials must be submitted to Site-██ for archival and cross-referencing with previous containment breaches.

The true scope of the anomaly's influence remains under investigation.
